Most yogis have read or least heard of Yoga Journal, the country’s preeminent yoga and yoga lifestyle magazine, which you can find in 28 countries. For the past 20 years, Yoga Journal has held five yoga conferences annually throughout the nation for yoga classes, education, lectures, networking, retail exhibits, and more. Called Yoga Journal LIVE!, the events are held in Colorado, New York, San Francisco, San Diego and Florida, bringing between 1,600 to 2,000 yogis to each conference. Each event includes about 35 master teachers and more than 100 classes.
This weekend was the Yoga Journal LIVE! San Diego event, held at Hotel del Coronado June 24-27 in Coronado. I attended a class called The Warrior Within Flow: Third Chakra with instructor Sadie Nardini and deejay Taz Rashid spinning the music.
Most classes, including this one, are suitable for all experience levels. Many instructors start out with an informal discussion with the class before going into asana, and I noticed several yogis taking notes in their journals. About 150 yogis are in each class, with the instructor elevated on a stage so everyone can see. There are even a few classes held on the beach or via stand-up paddle board in the water.
After class, I perused The Yoga Market (free & open to the public) to check out the 40+ retail exhibits. The market had healthy food samples, clothes, jewelry and other yoga swag for sale. But my favorite was the hammock lounge where tired yogis could rest their weary bones. Nap time, anyone?
Check back later for the 2017 dates of Yoga Journal LIVE! San Diego. Namaste!
