The view from the Coronado Ferry Landing

Having the first few days of spring-like temperature this week has been a welcomed change (sorry, east coast!) and prompted me to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. My friends and I had a great idea to rent bikes in Coronado and bomb around the island on beach cruisers pretending we’re tourists. We rented bikes from Bikes & Beyond at the Coronado Ferry Landing where we began our ride. To avoid the pedestrian and automobile traffic along Orange Avenue, we made our way to Ocean Boulevard so we could travel alongside the water. We peddled south all the way to the Hotel del Coronado and hung out on the beach for a while. Then we made our way back on Pomona Avenue along the golf course to end up where we started. Besides almost being hit by a car on Fourth Street, we had a great time!

Afterward we ventured over to Shima Japanese Steakhouse for dinner. Shima replaced the Firehouse Bar & Grill last year, and is a huge space that can accommodate large parties at their hibachi grill tables. I ordered the Solana teppanyaki meal with filet mignon and tiger shrimp. All the teppanyaki meals come with onion broth soup, salad, rice, veggies, and a shrimp appetizer. The menu says you get ice cream, too, but we were never offered any. We started with the sashimi martini, which isn’t actually a cocktail, but rather a glass full of sliced tuna, salmon and yellowtail with a cool light-up ice cube. I love a good show with dinner, and our chef definitely delivered that. How is it possible to say no to catching a shrimp in your mouth?!
