Sundays are for brunch, and I recently discovered a new brunch spot on the water in Mission Bay. Oceana Coastal Kitchen at the Catamaran Resort Hotel has champagne brunch on Sundays that includes bottomless mimosas or champagne, an entree, and unlimited trips to the buffet containing a full raw bar & fresh sushi, antipasti, salads, pastries, fruit and desserts. The outdoor patio has an amazing view of the water that’s perfect at sunset or on a sunny San Diego day. I opted for the Eggs Valencia entree, but quickly filled up on smoked salmon, smoked trout salad and maki rolls from the buffet.
Once you’re stuffed full of food & drink and have taken your afternoon siesta, take a cruise around the bay aboard the Bahia Belle Mississippi-style sternwheeler. The three-story, 74-foot boat docks at the Catamaran and its sister property the Bahia Resort Hotel, and is open to both hotel guests and the public. From the top deck, you’ll get a great view of the bay, and down below you’ll find a dance floor with a deejay or live band. The earlier boarding times are great for families with children, and the later times are perfect for cocktail hour. The boat takes about 30 minutes to cruise from one hotel to the other, so the cruise is about an hour long if you disembark at the same hotel you boarded. All aboard for Sunday Funday!
