Our cold weather has made me get creative about finding things to do indoors. You know, things like movies and the performing arts. The La Jolla Playhouse is a really nice venue located on the UCSD campus, and has been a professional theater since 1947. Tickets are affordable, and they even offer a special deal for patrons under 30 years old. That means theater for everyone!

Here’s the lineup for the current season at the Playhouse:

  • Guards at the Taj – Feb. 2-28
  • 2016 POP Tour, Alice Chan – March 5-6
  • Hollywood – May/June
  • The Last Tiger in Haiti – June/July
  • Junk: The Golden Age of Debt – July/August
  • Tiger Style! – September/October
  • Miss you Like Hell – October/November
  • Freaky Friday – February/March 2017

Personally, I have my eye on Freaky Friday because I remember reading the book and watching the movie in my younger days. The last show I saw at the Playhouse was Sideways, also a stage adaptation of its namesake novel and hit movie. I enjoyed the play, but definitely wanted wine after hearing it referenced so many times!

The Playhouse offers some concessions like wine and snacks, but for a great meal, head next door to James’ Place, an Asian-fusion and sushi restaurant. Sushi Master James Holder puts out some tasty food, including my favorite items: truffle tuna tartar, shrimp & lobster truffle fried rice, and the 808 sushi roll. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with truffle.

Now go enjoy the theatrical & culinary arts!
