There aren’t many weekend activities I love more than brunch with mimosas, especially in an open air environment. And now, for a limited time (thru Nov. 29), you can have Sunday brunch in the Turf Club at the Del Mar Racetrack. Yesterday was my first time checking out their fall racing season (AKA Bing Crosby Season), and my first time hanging out in the exclusive Turf Club. This was the second year the track decided to have a fall season after their popular summer season. It only lasts about a month, with races Thursday through Sunday—and most race days beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Every Sunday through the Bing Crosby Season, Chef Brian Malarkey presents Bing+Bubbles+Brunch, which includes a three-course meal, bottomless champagne or mimosas, and admission & a reserved table in the Turf Club. I started brunch with a crab cake slider appetizer, then had a lobster scramble plate, and ended with a warm berry cobbler a la mode. It was delicious, and the track couldn’t have provided a better afternoon view. And since we live in paradise, the weather cooperated with perfect fall temps and lots of sunshine. I think it’s fun to get all dressed up for a day at the track, which feels like a quintessential San Diego day. It’s nice to go in the fall when it’s not so crowded, too.
If brunch isn’t your thing (because you’re insane), there are other fun events in store for the Bing Crosby Season, including Reggae Fest on Nov. 21 featuring Iration, and a Sublime With Rome concert on Nov. 28. They’re also having a Craft Beer & Cider Fest on Nov. 28, with more than 100 brews and ciders. If you’re like me and love getting free swag, go on Nov. 14 for the fleece pullover giveaway (free with paid admission).
The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, folks… still cool as ever.
